REGARDING Bill Jacobs' Open House (LET, February 14) view that Saddam Hussein is responsible for dividing continental Europe from the US and the UK and subsequently threatening to break up NATO.

Not so, Bill -- the threat is George Bush. In an attempt to secure a second term in office, a job he narrowly wriggled into in the first place; he now finds he cannot back off a war and hope to be re-elected.

In the meantime, if terrorists fail to make a substantial strike here in Britain, soon, Mr Blair will withdraw his support for Bush and possibly save his own job. Such a positive action would destroy any possibility of Bush going it alone.
