A MAN was attacked with a machete and a woman's car was damaged when a gang of up 30 youths went on the rampage in Bury.

Dozens of police officers were called to Duxbury Drive after terrified residents rang for help as the mob attacked the 28-year-old man with the machete. He was later taken to Fairfield General Hospital where he received treatment to two deep stab wounds.

Before officers arrived, the group of Asians smashed the windscreen and rear window of a Peugeot owned by a 42-year-old woman. An eyewitness said: "They ran down the street with bats and chased people into the house.

"They were going mad on two cars, shouting that they were going to kill someone."

Detectives are now trying to identify the members of the gang and are appealing for help from residents.

It is believed the stab victim had been involved in an argument with the gang before he was attacked shortly before 6.30pm on Thursday (Feb 27).
