THE Vagina Monologues rolled into the Lowry this week with some scorching one-liners, moving soliloquies and a sexy, sassy trio of celebrities.
Shocking blonde Tamara Beckwith, TV favourite Mina Anwar and Eastenders' own Anita Dobson took us on a journey into how women feel about their sexuality.
Written by Eve Ensler, the play has been performed around the world, and offers the audience an insight into the lives of women from many backgrounds following research and interviews.
But this is no salacious show, as the audience is asked to deal with the horrors of the Balkan War, female circumcision and child abuse.
Yet the balance of the show is perfectly maintained as Tamara Beckwith describes the joys of finding herself, thanks to her new boyfriend's habit.
And Accrington born Mina Anwar delivers a hilarious description of a session in an American workshop for the more frustrated woman.
Whilst Anita Dobson steals the show thanks to an array of moaning and screams that takes the best part of ten minutes to deliver, and the same amount of time to recover from.
The Vagina Monologues is a play that deals bluntly with sex, and so uses some strong language, yet there is still a poignancy to the lives of the people concerned.
It is a real rollercoaster of a ride but in the best sense of the word.
The Vagina Monologues, The Lowry, until Saturday. Tel: 0870 111 2000.
