WHITEFIELD motorist Suzanne Hannaby was stung with a hefty fine for not paying the new London congestion charge, even though she was miles away from the capital at the time of the offence.
Suzanne was "absolutely livid" when she telephoned the authorities to say there had been a mistake and was told she had to prove she was not in London at the time her vehicle was supposed to have been caught on camera.
A spokesman for AA North West said there were several similar cases and the most likely explanation was a digit on someone else's number plate being mis-read from camera footage, and the wrong details being fed into the DVLA computer.
