Students and staff at a local college came together to host a spectacular show.
Money raised from the event will be used to buy bi-lingual books for a children's library to be set up at the Jamiah Uloomul Quran complex in Jambusar, Gujurat, India.
A level, Vocational and International students from Preston College modelled traditional male and female Asian dress including Shalwar Kameez and Sari's ranging in colour from baby blue and pink to deep 'winter' colours..
As well as a performance by Drama students henna painting was carried out and food was prepared and served by Catering students. Students from Hair and Beauty also participated in the show as they help prepared the models for the catwalk.
Rosaleen Seed, who works at Preston College, was inspired to set up a library system at the centre after doing in-service teacher training there in 2001. She said, "It was a fun afternoon and organising the fashion show has been a marvellous experience for the students who have all given up their free time to make it happen. They know that whatever money is raised will go towards something that is worthwhile."
Hundreds of English books, fiction and non-fiction, have already been collected by students and staff at the College and will soon be shipped out to Jambusar.
Special guests included Mr Abdul Hai Munshi, who is very pro-active in raising money for Jambusar, and Dr Adam Ghodiwala, who liaises with Preston College Scholarships in Bharuch and is also Head of a Muslim Girls School in Blackburn.
