AN elderly woman was tricked by two women -- possibly pensioners themselves -- posing as charity workers.
The con women called at the 90-year-old's house in Green Street, Hindsford in Atherton, saying they were collecting clothes and other items for the elderly and needy.
The pensioner asked the women to come back as she would need time to gather some things together.
One of the collectors distracted the victim by saying she needed to use the toilet.
Meanwhile, the other con woman forced her way into the premises and ushered the pensioner into the living room.
Both offenders grabbed the victim's bag before hurrying out and slamming the door behind them.
The bag contained the victim's bank cards, pension book and some cash.
The thieves were described as white and aged between 40 and 60 years. One was 5ft 6ins tall, medium build, with short blonde hair and spoke with a local accent.
The other was 5ft tall and also spoke with a local accent. The victim saw them leave in a white van with a blue line all the way round it.
Det Con Paolo Dale of Leigh CID said: "This was a terrifying experience for the victim. These women posed as charity workers and took advantage of her good nature.
"To know that such despicable people have tricked their way into her home has left her extremely shaken and upset.
"I cannot emphasise enough the importance of asking for identification from people who call at your house and the elderly should not be afraid to turn them away if they are not happy with their credentials.
"I would like to take this opportunity to warn other elderly or vulnerable people in the area to be on their guard.
Anyone with any information about the incident which happened at about 4pm last Friday should call Leigh CID on 0161 856 7254 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
