FURIOUS Burnley boss Stan Ternent claims his side was "cheated" out of three points at Millwall last night by referee Mark Cooper.

In a typical Ternent blast he has called on something to be done about the standard of refereeing and especially about Mr Cooper, who has now booked TEN Burnley players in just two matches this season.

"We were cheated," he said. "I think we should have won the game 1-0, their goal was offside and we had a blatant penalty when Robbie Blake was fouled.

"There were six bookings and there was not a bad tackle in the whole of the game. We have been the victims of an awful refereeing display.

"He did the exact same thing against us at Crystal Palace and I say what I do with all due respect."

Ternent has been in trouble with the FA in recent times, serving a two-match touchline ban after an incident in the match against Wolves at Turf Moor last season and he knows his latest outburst may find him back in hot water.

"If they want to fine me they can, but I won't be paying it," he steamed. "I will give them a video of the game and then they will be fining him.

"Something has to be done because a season's work is at stake. That was one of the worst refereeing displays I have ever seen and we have had two points taken away from us.

"I am not saying that we did not ride our luck, I am just saying that I felt that Millwall had a little help tonight.

"I know that refs go out there and try to do their best but if that was his best he should be reffing down at Hackney Marshes."

Among other decisions to infuriate the manager were a booking for Gareth Taylor as he had the ball kicked at him as he was walking away, he is now going to be suspended for two games, and the penalising of Marlon Beresford for taking too long over the clearance.

"I'm glad the ref reminded me of that rule," he said. "I had forgotten that one.

"We have come down to play a football match at Millwall, a very important match, and important match for Mark McGhee after a run of defeats btu we end up talking about the ref. We can't be wrong all the time.

"If you get beat you say they are better than us on the day, if we win we say we were better than them, we got a break or this and that. But not tonight, it was not a fair contest."

Ternent sought out the ref at the end of the game, and the ref admitted: "The Burnley manager did come to see me but what was said will stay inside those four walls."

He claimed that Gareth Taylor was actually booked for kicking the ball away, Paul Weller for not retreating quick enough and Dean West for dissent. He also denied their was any hidden agenda against the club despite a card count of 6-0 against the Clarets.

In terms of the action, Burnley made it ten trips to London without defeat thanks to Ian Moore's first half goal, his sixth goal in the last ten games and third in four.

Sub Richard Sadlier levelled things late on with a close range strike, a reward for the home pressure after the interval but it is the performance of Mr Cooper that will be the lasting memory from this match.

Burnley would have reached a season's high of seventh with a win but will now turn their attention to the massive FA Cup quarter-final at Watford on Sunday.
