STAFF at Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale Primary Care Trust are celebrating after scooping a Charter Mark for the fourth time.

The learning disability service first received the award in 1993 but has been successful at each of three reassessments, made every three years.

The Charter Mark is awarded by the government for excellence in service delivery to customers. Applicants must pass 10 rigorous criteria to achieve the standard.

Judith Roberts, spokeswoman for the PCT, said: "The LDS is particularly proud to have retained its Charter Mark against a background of major organisational change and pressure on resources.

"The assessment was extremely stringent and detailed. Nothing evaded the eye of the assessor. The award is a tribute to the whole of the 330 people who work within the LDS."

The LDS offers a wide range of services to people with learning disabilities included supported living respite day care and the community nursing team.
