SERGEANT Andy Carter has been seconded from Burnley police to work in Padiham for at least a year.

Andy is no stranger to the town as he has worked there before.

His presence, with other community beat officers, may help satisfy people who concerned that at times the police station is closed to the public, an issue raised at a meeting of Padiham Town Council on March 3.

EDUCATION Secretary Charles Clarke could visit Padiham's Gawthorpe High School after hearing it is one of three secondaries in Burnley which is heavily over-subscribed.

He was invited by MP Peter Pike during a meeting held to discuss problems with subscription at schools in the town was highlighted by families who set up the DIY School when children failed to get into Gawthorpe, Ivy Bank and Habergham.

PADIHAM Town Council has proposed to bring part of the Stonemoor Bottom estate within the town boundary.

Hapton Parish Council is in agreement and also propose to lose part of the Printer's Fold estate, which will move into the Lowerhouse boundary.

The inclusion of part of Printer's Fold into the political area of Hapton will mean the number of Hapton councillors on Burnley Borough Council will be reduced from nine to seven.

BEAT manager PC Tony Himycz has issued a "lock it or lose it" warning to residents following a number of attempted break-ins and thefts in Hapton.

He said a shop and a house were targeted in Bridgefield Street and property has been stolen from a number of back yards.

FARMER Hubert Tattersall has submitted an application for permission to change a barn at Castle Clough Farm into three houses.

The parish council have no objections. It will be considered by members of Burnley Borough Council's development control committee.

PUPILS from Gawthorpe enjoyed a trip to London with assistant headteacher Ian Walker during the half-term holiday.

The group visited many of the city's tourist attractions but declared the best 'bit' was an invitation to the studios of Radio Five where they met Todmorden's weatherman John Kettley. They presented him with a gift from his home town and said he was thrilled.
