AN 84-year-old Trawden man has died ten days after being crushed under the wheels of a double decker bus.
Willie Pickles, of East View, Trawden, fell into the road close to the bus stop in Church Street, Trawden, on Thursday, February 20.
The vehicle had set off and the pensioner was run over by the rear wheels. He suffered severe crush injuries and was taken to Burnley General Hospital where he died.
The elderly man, whose daughter lives in Laneshawbridge, was well-known in Trawden and neighbours said they were shocked to hear about the accident.
Transport bosses launched an investigation into the incident, which involved a Burnley and Pendle Travel bus which had just finished dropping off some passengers at the bottom of Lambeth Street.
A spokesman for the company said they working with the police to establish what happened and inquiries were still continuing.
Sergeant Russell Gregory, of the road policing unit, said statements had been taken from relevant witnesses but the driver of the bus was still due to be questioned.
