HYNDBURN'S leisure passport scheme is to be expanded.

Started in November, the passport offers discounts on sports centres, the town hall, Oswaldtwistle Civic Theatre and the New Era Centre, Accrington.

Now businesses have come on board to offer discounts to those eligible - students, the retired, people on benefits and the disabled.

The new superbowl will be offering a £1 discount to adults and 50p to children in the scheme. The passport will also be accepted at Accrington's Premiere Cinema, and the textile museum and bubble factory at Oswaldtwistle Mills.

Coun David Myles, leisure and culture boss, said: "It's fantastic that we have now got businesses on board because it's local businesses delivering services to local people. One of the problems with Hyndburn is that although we have very low unemployment rate, we have also got a lot of people on minimum wages. It's important for everybody to have some leisure time." The passport is available from the town hall.
