A HYNDBURN stray dogs charity has made a heartfelt appeal for help with a homeless pooch who broke his leg after being knocked down.
Little Lucky, who resembles a mini Lassie, was left whimpering in the gutter after he tried to cross Whalley Road, in Accrington, last Wednesday afternoon. The Shelty Cross was taken to the nearby Mearley Vets, in Kenyon Street, until Hyndburn Stray Dogs In Need took him under their wing on Saturday.
But the charity's dog warden Steve Wood said Lucky's owners have not come forward and they need help with the £400 bill to get his leg fixed and to give him a new home.
Steve, 48, works from the charity's reception in Canon Street, Accrington. He said that when he first saw Lucky's face in the vets it nearly broke his heart.
If anyone would like to help, they can drop off money at BJK Pet Supplies, on Town Gate, Great Harwood; Pet Warehouse, Oak Street, Oswaldtwistle; Aspen Valley Kennels, Lower Aspen Lane, Oswaldtwistle; Town and Country Vets, Whalley Road, Clayton-le-Moors and the charity's offices on Canon Street, Accrington. Or they can call Steve on 01254 380640.
