AN environmental action group criticised planners for approving a development to build 56 new homes on farmland in Golborne.
Property developer Wainhomes North West will be building three storey terraced houses on the site of Town Farm and Lawsons Farm -- including the refurbishment of two listed buildings for residential use on bthe site alongside Golborne Island on the East Lancs Road
But the Golborne & District Environmental Action Group has blasted the plans and vowed to fight on and seek a judicial review to stop development.
A action group spokesman said: "The site is of great historical value, and there is real potential to use the land as a heritage centre to utilise the listed buildings. But this development wouldn't be in keeping with the village at all.
"We are all for creating jobs but the three storey buildings would be an eyesore and would send out a bad impression of the village. We've lost the chance to upgrade the village image status and pride."
