POLICE have come up with a scheme to save them extra cash -- waterless urinals.
It is one of a variety of initiatives Lancashire Constabulary has introduced during the past year as part of its environmental strategy.
The waterless urinals have been installed at the Hutton headquarters.
Other initiatives include obtaining energy from wind farms, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 15 per cent.
Heating, ventilation, air conditioning and hot water in many Lancashire stations is computer controlled to ensure energy use is always efficient, saving as much as 20 per cent.
A plan to wash cars with recycled rain and waste water is expected to begin next year.
The Lancashire Police Authority will consider the constabulary's 'green' performance during a meeting at County Hall, Preston, on March 12.
