BURY Lions have raised around £2,500 thanks to a sportsman's dinner.
The event, held at the Bolholt Country Park Hotel, in Bury, attracted 140 guests. They enjoyed a meal and an evening of entertainment.
Speakers were Wilf McGuinness, who spoke about his career as a soccer player and manager, GMR presenter Jimmy Wagg, who was the MC, and comedian Billy Bean.
Alan Wilde, of Bury Lions, said: "It was a very successful evening. We've raised £2,500 so far, with more money still to come in. All the proceeds will be diverted to local charities within the borough. Given the success of the dinner, it won't be just a one-off."
