A YOUNG couple are being hunted after an arson attack on a flat in Bury over the weekend.
The pair gained entry through the communal door of the apartment complex in Walmersley Road on Saturday night (March 1). The woman was carrying three plastic bags which were later discovered to contain fire lighters, rags and a white spirit.
After the man and woman left the building, a resident who had let them in discovered a fire at the door of a third-floor apartment.
She called for the fire brigade but managed to extinguish the blaze herself using pans of water. Fire damage was confined to the door's wooden surround and floor boards.
A 29-year-old man in the targeted flat suffered smoke inhalation but he did not require hospital treatment.
Police said they are following very positive lines of inquiry.
