FOLK music legend Julie Felix is performing in Preston next week as part of her new UK tour.
Felix rose to fame in the the sixties as part of a folk movement that included Bob Dylan and Joan Baez and was the resident singer on the Frost Report in her early days.
The American musician, who arrived in England in 1964 after hitching through Europe with a duffel bag and a Mexican guitar, soon made some famous friends that would help boost her career.
In 1967 Brian Epstein asked Julie to top the bill with jazz singer Georgie Fame for a week in 'Fame and Felix'. Their support act was Cat Stevens, a newcomer at the time.
Soon Julie's television career began to take off, when she was given her series of 17 shows -- the first colour series produced by the BBC. The show was sold to countries across the world including Russia.
But Julie used the show to introduce the world to other talents including Spike Milligan, Leonard Cohen and Dusty Springfield.
Now 64, the singer hasn't lost any of the power and personality. She is back on tour, promoting her new Bob Dylan tribute album, Starry Eyed and Laughing.
Julie stops off in Preston for one night on Friday, March 14 at the St Peter's Arts Centre, Fylde Road. Doors open at 7.30pm and tickets are £10. For information ring 893001.
