BRAVE Dana Carroll has suffered a setback in her fight against cancer.
The seven-year-old from Bury has undergone major surgery to remove her arm after intensive chemotherapy failed to cure a rare form of bone cancer she contracted last October.
But the plucky youngster is looking forward to a trip to EuroDisney, funded by the local business community.
Now friends and relatives, again with the support of local businesses, are rallying round to raise money for a prosthetic limb for Dana.
Cousin Karen Standing, of Oxbow Way, Whitefield, said: "Dana is back home for a while and she is doing really well, considering. She is talking and smiling and is very excited about the holiday and her new baby brother who she has named Guy.
"She will go on the holiday as soon as doctors allow her to."
Dana, who lives in Pilling Street, Walshaw, with her parents Dave (56) and Sharon (32), her brother Daniel (12) and baby Guy, was struck down with the cancer after returning from a family holiday abroad.
Despite early diagnosis, the cancer spread leaving doctors with no choice but to amputate the arm in February.
Since the beginning of the year, Karen has been enlisting the support of the local business community. Together with the help of charity Destination Florida, they have raised thousands of pounds towards the trip. The married mother of one, says she will continue her fund-raising drive to give the poorly youngster the best medical treatment on offer.
Karen explained: "The artificial limbs provided by the NHS are better than they were but we want to try and raise enough money to fund a well-fitting one for Dana."
Together with friend Karen Winterbottom, Karen has organised a sponsored keep-fit event at the Millennium Gym in Bury tomorrow (Sat March 8) .
