THE major cup competition of the Air Miles Manchester League season, the Gilgryst Cup, has now reached the semi-final stage.
One of the ties will be staged at Prestwich Heys' Sandgate Road ground tomorrow (Saturday) when Heys take on local rivals Elton Vale, from nearby Bury (kick-off 2pm).
At stake will be a place in the final on Monday May 5 against either Springhead or Atherton Town, who are contesting the other semi-final.
The closest Heys have come to lifting the trophy was in 1995 when they were beaten by Ramsbottom United in the final. As for Elton Vale, this is the first time they have progressed beyond the first round since making their bow in the competition in 1995.
The sides are expected to choose from the following squads:
PRESTWICH HEYS: Rooney, Norton, Brierley, Walters, Stokes, Massey, Lyons, J Kavanagh, Uddin, Love, Denham, Orrell, Garrick, K Kavanagh, Leonard, Mercer, Dydyna, Carrington, Evans.
ELTON VALE: Crossley, Slater, Doran, Dearden, Wilkes, Keegan, Hopkins, Shaw, Owen, Price, Armstrong, Watson, Malius, Smith.
The game is being sponsored by Grimshaws Garages.
