A KIND-HEARTED mum has given a welcome cash injection to a Blackpool hospital ward to thank staff for their compassion for her late mother.
Janet Foran donated £3000 win in a company competition to the haematology ward at Blackpool Victoria Hospital saying the care for her 66-year-old mum Kathleen Clisby in the last few months of her life was "absolutely priceless".
"They were absolutely brilliant, especially towards the end. It was like home from home for her," said Janet, a call centre worker for telecoms giant 02.
"The family was practically camped out there. In the last week my dad stopped there overnight and the nursing staff looked after him, too. They were very caring."
Janet, who is from Leeds, received the money after entering a national competition for 02 employees to win cash for charity last November.
So impressed were the company by Janet's dedication to the ward that they came up with the money despite the fact that she did not win the competition.
She got together with 16 colleagues who all entered the quiz -- and all named the Vic's haematology ward as their chosen charity.
"Unfortunately we didn't win, but 02 didn't want us to go unnoticed," Janet said.
"The company wanted to show appreciation to us for taking the time to answer all the questions, being dedicated to one cause -- and because of the compassion my colleagues showed for me for what I was going through with my mum."
Janet proudly presented the cheque to the haematology ward last week.
"They were just about over the moon. I had mention it to them that I was entering the competition, but they just couldn't believe that the company had gone out of their way to make sure they didn't lose out," she said.
Sadly, Kathleen, who had retired to the Fylde Coast from Leeds with husband Brian, passed away three days before Christmas.
But Janet says the compassion of Vic staff won't be forgotten.
"I understand the money is going to go towards infusion machinery which makes it easier for nurses to treat the patients.
"Just knowing that somebody else is going to benefit because of mum's time there is a nice thought."
