LYTHAM CC overseas player Peter Fulton, joined an elite group of New Zealand batsmen and broke a 66-year-old record when scoring 301 not out against Auckland in Christchurch on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old Canterbury right-handed batsman joins other New Zealand triple century legends, Bert Sutcliffe, Roger Blunt, Glenn Turner, Ken Rutherford and Mark Richardson.

Fulton also surpassed the previous highest maiden century in the history of New Zealand Cricket when beating the record of 290 scored by W N "Bill" Carson in the summer of 1936/37

Fulton spent the last two summers with Lytham CC as their overseas player/coach. He narrowly missed out on a New Zealand academy place during that time, but, as a late developer, gained his place in the Canterbury side and consolidated it this season when returning from a successful season in the Liverpool Competition ECB Premier League.

Peter will not be returning to Lytham this summer, but his links with the club remain strong. Last summer he became engaged to local girl Emma, the sister of Helen, 1st X1 skipper Dan Thompsons partner.

Peter and Dan are in constant touch and he has been instumental in recommending his potential replacement for the 2003 season.

"Everybody at Lytham CC is thrilled to hear of Peters success and join in wishing him well for the future. Peter has always indicated his desire to return to Lytham and needless to say, he will be more than welcome," said Lyham's Director of Cricket Development Peter Harris.
