A DISQUALIFIED driver who was three times the drink-drive limit when he was breathalysed in the morning was jailed for three months by Blackburn magistrates.
The court heard that Paul Trezise had previously been banned for 10 years in 1994 for drink driving and driving while disqualified and for five years in 2001 for the same offences.
And defence solicitor Elliott Taylforth revealed that his alcoholic client only has one kidney and a partially functioning liver.
Trezise, 53, of Bolton Road, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol and while disqualified and as well as a jail sentence he was banned for a further five years.
Mr Taylforth said Trezise accepted that he is an alcoholic and had physical problems as a result.
"He only has one kidney and half a liver and, while I am not a medical man, I wonder whether these have some affect on his metabolism of alcohol.," said Mr Taylforth.
He said the day before Trezise was stopped at 11.45 am he had been to a funeral and had drunk heavily at the subsequent wake.
