FIREFIGHTERS in Darwen have enjoyed a boom in home safety visits following a presentation on the dangers of chip-pan fires.
Crews carried out a blaze demonstration last week which attracted dozens of people in front of the town hall.
Leading firefighter Liam Wilson, said: "The aim of the demonstration was really to urge people to use deep fat fryers instead of chip pans because they are very dangerous things.
"People need to be aware of what happens when too much oil is put in or when they leave chip pans unattended. They are one of the main causes of fires in homes.
"After people saw the demonstration we have had around 50 people wanting us to make home safety visits and that's a very healthy number. It shows that people have really listened."
