PLANS to turn a three-storey house in Clitheroe into six self-contained flats have been approved, provided the developer builds a car park at the back of the property.
Ribble Valley Council's planning and development committee gave the scheme in Whalley Road the thumbs-up at a meeting in the council chamber, despite concerns from county surveyor Brian Cooper that it might lead to parking problems.
He said: "The proposed development will result in an increased demand for on-street parking in the vicinity of the site or use of a substandard access alongside the property. Both of these are unacceptable."
Nearby resident Peter Little told councillors: "Tenants are already living in the flats, which has led to increased traffic movement, inconsiderate parking and unacceptable levels of rubbish being dumped."
