IF England follows Scotland and fields a proportionate number of candidates to the 100 or so which the Senior Citizens Unite party is putting forward there, then in the May elections, the present political parties are in for a real shock.
The established political parties should not be disparaging or treat the strength of the pensioners with contempt. For the worm is turning and they are getting ready to stand up for their rights which have been eroded by the politicians of today.
Labour treats the elderly by evicting them from their care homes and giving a 75p rise in their pensions. Any rise this year will be swallowed by council tax increases.
The Tories were no better, scrapping the link between average earnings and the pension. Pensioner power is now and can prevail.
