A SCIENCE fair to celebrate "100 years of powered flight" was held at a Burnley high school yesterday.
Habergham High School, Kiddrow Lane, celebrated the event to coincide with National Science week and the school's launch for specialised science and engineering status.
Pupils from local primary schools were invited to attend the morning and afternoon sessions.
Children were given the opportunity to fly hot air balloons, rockets, boomerangs and paper planes of their own design.
Professional rocketeers from the Starchaser project gave a presentation alongside their Nova rocket.
Ian Mortimer, head of science, said: "The event provides a tremendous opportunity for an enthusiastic group of pupils. technicians and teachers to express themselves to a wider audience than usual.
"The fair and a more permanent display within the science department has collectively been code-named the lcarus project.
"The entire project enables us to carry out our responsibilities as a beacon school in sharing good practice with partner primaries and represents our ambition for specialist status."
