BURNLEY, Pendle and Rossendale Stop Smoking Advisory Service and the Mobile Cancer Information Service are to work together during the next two months to provide information about cancer, cancer services and stopping smoking sessions.
The Mobile Cancer Information Service for East Lancashire is a three-year project which has been funded by the New Opportunities Fund. Its aim is to display and provide information about cancer using a publicity vehicle, which was launched in June 2002.
Since the launch it has visited various supermarkets, town centres, health events and festivals throughout the area and members of the public have been able to take away valuable information, including advice about breast, lung, prostate, head and neck cancer helplines, support groups and cancer charities.
The bus was at the Stoops and Hargher Clough Youth and Community Centre car park, in Venice Street, today and will there weekly for the next eight weeks.
Information sessions will be held every Wednesday between 2.30pm and 4.30pm when cancer information will be available and staff will give advice on stopping smoking and the use of nicotine replacement therapy.
The Cancer Information vehicle is available to visit any community event in East Lancashire.
Anyone wishing to book it for an event should contact Elaine Entwistle, project manager, on 01282 475127.
