THE heartbroken parents of a man found hanging in a park have asked mourners to send donations to a charity for people with drink and drug problems.
Ian and Violet Forrester, of Primet Heights, Colne, made the decision as they prepared for the funeral of their son, Andrew, at Holy Trinity Church, Colne, tomorrow.
The couple said they wanted donations to be made to the THOMAS project in France Street, Blackburn.
THOMAS (Those on the Margins of Society), is run by Father Jim McCartney from St Anne's Church, Blackburn.
Andrew, 30, was found in Walverden Park, Nelson, on Thursday, March 6.
An inquest into his death was opened and adjourned by coroner's officer Bob Wilson, at Burnley magistrates court yesterday.
Mr Wilson said Andrew was found hanging from a goal post in the basketball court and heard a post mortem examination found the cause of death was hanging.
The inquest was adjourned to allow further inquiries to be made.
A 23-year-old Nelson man has been released on police bail while detectives continue their investigation into the possibility of an 'assisted suicide.'
A police spokesman said Mr and Mrs Forrester chose THOMAS to benefit from their son's death because they wanted donations to go to a charity that helped people with drink and drugs problems.
He added: "They chose THOMAS because it is a charity and because it has a drop-in and rehabilitation centre."
