BLACKBURN Rovers' two Academy sides went goal-crazy at the weekend as they scored nine times between them without reply.
Rob Kelly's Under 19s thumped Sunderland 4-0 despite missing some of their more experienced peformers who had appeared in the reserves the night before.
And Ian Miller's Under 17s then eclipsed that achievement by thumping Millwall 5-0 to keep their hopes firmly alive of finishing top of their group.
John Fitzgerald, Ian Black, Peter Corvino and Jemal Johnson were all on target at Sunderland where the Black Cats were playing their first Saturday game at the brand new Academy of Light.
"That was a pleasing result particularly given the fact we were missing some key players who had played in the reserves the night before," said Academy Director Bobby Downes.
Keith Barker was the star of the Under 17s' win as he netted an impressive hat-trick and there were also goals for Sergio Peter and Joel Byrom.
"We were expecting a bit of an up-and-at-them game but that never really materialised because we scored after two minutes," said Downes.
"So it was a very good away performance. Millwall beat Arsenal in the FA Youth Cup so they are no mugs."
The Under 17s will finish top of their group if they beat Derby on Saturday and Leeds lose to Bolton.
