SEVEN people are in police custody today awaiting interview following a series of police drugs raids in Burnley.
Nine homes in Arran Street, Howard Street, Pheasant Ford Street, Scott Terrace, Grange Street, Heap Street, Dixon Street and Hale Street, were raided by police yesterday as part of their continuing crackdown on suspected drug offenders.
Specialist officers from Pennine Division's Support Unit joined geographic police officers to execute the warrants.
The raids were carried out as a result of information received from local residents through Crimestoppers and the new Burnley Drugsline.
The arrests were made in connection with a variety of drugs offences, as well as burglary and other offences. Quantities of heroin, cannabis and amphetamine were seized.
Sergeant Steve Hindle, from the Pennine Division Support Unit, said: "The warrants were executed as part of the Safer Streets in Lancashire campaign in direct response to concerns from the local community.
"I hope that our positive action will not only help to reassure local residents, but also serve as a warning to other offenders.
"The use and supply of drugs, particularly in residential areas, will not be tolerated by local police and we will take action.
"Suspected offenders will be targeted and where there is sufficient evidence, they will be put before the courts."
He added: "In order for us to take that action though, we do need co-operation from local residents. Their information about suspected drug dealers is vital.
"In Burnley and Padiham, information can now be passed on to us freely and in complete confidence thanks to the new dedicated drugs line.
"I would urge residents to use that new number and to do their bit to help us combat drug dealing and drug related crime."
