BREEDER Joan Patrick's little heelers took prestigious awards at Crufts.

Her Lancashire heelers collected a top stud dog trophy and runner-up in the best in breed class.

Charity worker, Joan, wife of retired farmer John Patrick, of Warrington Road, Glazebury, owns four heelers and was delighted when her two ageing pets performed so well.

Eight-years-old Patterjo Gingham, known as Poppet and the youngest of Joan's pack, took second spot while Shoeshine Boy of Patterjo, petname Rupert, carried off the Eukanuba Stud Dog of the Year prize for heelers -- at 12.

Joan said: "Rupert won the award because his pups have done so well. He's sired five litters, but didn't start until he was eight -- when we got some new blinds!"

Judge in the Lancashire heeler section was Julie Swann, of Crankwood Road, Abram.

John, who is a border collie man, will be giving a dog and duck demonstration in May, using ducks instead of sheep, at Culcheth's Spring bank holiday celebrations.
