POLICE in Burnley are appealing for witnesses after an 80-year-old woman fought off two muggers.
The woman, who does not want to be identified, kicked and struggled with two teenage robbers who tried to snatch her handbag.
She was approached getting out of her car in Swindon Street on Wednesday afternoon. A youth approached her and asked for directions to Nairne Street.
As the woman gave him directions, the thief tried to grab a handbag. He fled empty handed.
She was then approached by a second man who also tried to grab the bag. She kicked the man, who then ran off.
The first man was white, 5ft 10 ins, 18-19-years-old, clean shaven, with dark brown hair, He was wearing and black and blue fleece or anorak. He spoke with a Scottish or Irish accent.
The second man waswhite, 5ft 4ins, 18-19-years-old, wearing a blue and black cap with a white motif, training shoes and dark trousers. He had short dark hair and a pale complexion.
