A NEW all-girl band is to hold its own Pop Idol-style auditions with a difference -- there will be no Mr Nasty.
4play have been together just five weeks and are looking for a talented fourth member to help them on their way to the top of the charts.
The girls -- Ingrid Law, 20, from Accrington, Charlotte Pugh, 17, from Blackburn, and Rachel Dietz, 17, from Preston -- are currently rehearsing for a record company showcase in London.
But with less than three weeks to go to their first gig, at the Rolls-Royce Club in Barnoldswick, the fourth member dropped out, leaving the band one short.
Manager and musical director Stuart Thomas says, just like the popular television show, everyone who turns up will be given a chance.
But he won't be emulating the programme's acid-tongued critic Simon Cowell, who carved his reputation by criticising wannabe stars like Zoe Birkett on ITV's Pop Idol.
"Whoever turns up will get a crack at it," he said.
"I'm not nasty but I will say you are not what we are looking for. I have watched Pop Idol and I think it's appalling.
"Someone might not be up to scratch but you don't tear them down and make them look a fool -- it's not my way.
"I wouldn't say you look awful, I couldn't say that, I wouldn't like it to happen to me."
Currently rehearsing a set of chart covers, the band ultimately aims to do original material and Clayton-le-Moors based management company JBS have enlisted the help of a songwriter.
Ingrid, from Ormerod Street, Accrington, says as long as the fourth member sings well and is easy to get along with, she will be happy.
"I had never met the other girls before but we have got on brilliantly.
"We would like someone easy-going that fits in -- someone we can get along with. We would like it to go as far as it can."
The new member should be able to sing and dance, and be aged 17 to 21. "We have a definite idea where this girl's pitch is and the minute we hear it we will know it," said Stuart. "Charlotte has the deepest voice, Ingrid has the strongest and Rachel has got the highest.
"So we are looking for a voice that pitches somewhere between Ingrid and Charlotte."
On the panel with Stuart will be agent Joan Thomas, and his partner Paul Blenkinship.
Auditions will be held at 7pm on Thursday at 7pm at the Willow Mount, Willows Lane, Accrington. Anyone interested in attending the audition should call Stuart Thomas on 01254 238464 or 07739 084301.
