THE National Blood Service has increased the number of donor sessions in Blackburn this year as a result of a strong turnout in the past.
In all 27 will be held this year but as a result, some sessions are now very quiet.
Emma Heason from the National Blood Service said: "Recent sessions have been below our target so we need more people to come along and give blood."
People with blood type O negative are in particular demand.
Emma said: "We are low on stocks of O negative.
"It is an important blood type because it can be given to anyone."
The blood service is asking people to be sensible if a war breaks out in The Gulf.
Emma said: "If there is a war, we do not want everyone to rush out and give blood as they will overflow our stocks.
"If people want to help they should register as a donor so we can contact them when needed.
"It is important to remember - as for any war effort -we will need to keep up our national supply."
To register as a donor people call 08457 711 711 or register online at www.blood.co.uk.
There will be a chance for people to give blood at King George's Hall, Blackburn, on Wednesday, March 26.
Sessions will run from 2pm to 4pm and from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.
