Coming into February Rovers were in abysmal form, out of both the cups, slipping down the league and criticism flying in from all directions.
But as I remarked in my article last month with the calibre of players that Rovers have I fully expected them to have a resurgence.
As the old saying goes 'Form is temporary, Class is permanent' and 'Class' is exactly what Rovers have showed.
Going into the Southampton game confidence was at all time low, the atmosphere around Ewood was very tense, however Rovers produced a gritty and hardworking display.
Due to not being involved in the FA Cup Rovers had an enforced two-week break, ideal opportunity to get the likes of David Dunn fit for the daunting visit to Chelsea. In a game billed as a 'shootout' between Chelsea's Cudicini and Rovers' Brad Friedel for title of 'best' goalkeeper, it was undoubtly Friedel who came out on top.
Like so many times this season Friedel produced a masterclass, as he repelled wave after wave of Chelsea attacks. With the game heading towards a 0-0 draw, suddenly from an innocuous corner Yorke was left unmarked and he duly tucked the ball away to give Rovers a priceless lead, and things got even better when in injury time Dunn scored a fantastic second and despite conceding a late goal Rovers held on to secure three points.
Since coming back into the Premiership, Rovers have not won three games on the trot. So the home game against Manchester City seemed an ideal opportunity to reach this milestone. City had the previous week been beaten 5-1 by Arsenal and were described as a 'wounded animal' prior to the game by Graeme Souness.
Despite Rovers being disrupted by a late injury to Yorke, they began the game like a house and fire and it was no surprise when that man Dunn again gave Rovers the lead on 13 minutes, and despite further chances in the first half Rovers couldn't find the second goal.
The form of David Dunn has been a major plus over the last few weeks. If you remember last month Souness questioned Dunn's commitment and indicated that should the right offer come along Rovers would be 'reluctant sellers'. At the time people questioned whether Souness should have done this, well with Dunn coming back and producing two fantastic displays it appears that the manager's gamble has paid off. Talking to the Press after the City game Souness said, "I got a 'hello' out of him today and he will certainly get a 'well done' from me tonight.
All in all a fantastic month for Rovers, however with tough games coming up against Arsenal and Newcastle during March Rovers are going to have to be on their mettle if they are to sustain their challenge for a UEFA cup spot.
Dunn also played the row down after the game "The most important thing for me is that I have now got two 90 minutes under my belt. The manager thinks I have the hump with him but it doesn't matter at all what happens between me and the manager off the pitch. "These sorts of things happen between a player and a manager in football. The important thing is when I go out on the pitch I do my best for the club and give 100%."
