EIGHT out of 10 young people suffer from stress, with adapting to working life, managing money and paying off debts the main causes, research has revealed.

Just over a quarter of people in their 20s said working life made them stressed, while 23% claimed the thought of saving and investing caused them to worry and 9% get stressed about their debts, according to Birmingham Midshires.

But only 3% of young people were worried about losing their job and just 2% were concerned about house prices.

Across all age groups, 21% of people said they were stressed about work, while 19% said their children regularly caused them to worry, and 17% were concerned about making savings and investment decisions.

However, Britons appeared to be remarkably relaxed about debt, with just 6% claiming the amount of money they owed was a regular cause of concern, despite reports that people are taking on record amounts of debt.

Men were more likely to worry about the performance of their football team than they were about whether the property market will crash, with 6% saying they got stressed about their team and just 5% claiming to be concerned about house prices.

Tim Hague, of Birmingham Midshires said, "The number of young people suffering from stress is a big concern.

"Your 20s is still a time when we assume and hope that people are carefree and living life to the full."
