EDUCATION bosses in Bolton and Bury have been given top marks for passing on national funding increases to schools.
The Department for Education and Skills praised the local education authorities (LEAs) for both towns for investing all of their funding increases for this year in the classroom.
This means that the LEA will not be subject to intervention from Education Secretary Charles Clarke over budget levels.
Under the Education Act 2002, the Secretary of State can set a minimum budget for any LEAs if it is not spending enough on schools.
Bolton's education budget for the forthcoming financial year has increased by £15.8 million, bringing the education budget to around £165m.
