BLACKBURN Arts Club will be bringing to life the tragic story of the Accrington Pals which opens tonight at the club's theatre in Gibraltar Street.
Peter Whelan's play looks at life in Accrington as the First World War breaks out and men who enlist to form the Pals battalion.
The play follows two men in particular, Ralph and Tom, and the women they leave behind.
From early enthusiasm, they are exposed to the harsh realities of trench warfare.
It culminates in the opening push of the Battle of the Somme which saw the Accrington Pals virtually wiped out in one day.
The play is directed by Brian J Lawson and the cast includes Anne Baron, Neil Proctor, Geoff Baron, Sarah Nolan, Andrea Lloyd, Jennifer Fearnley, Cryssie Lawton, Mike Ashton, Stephen Cant and David Pilkington.
The show runs from tonight until Saturday with performances at 7.30pm. Tickets are £5 (concessions £3.50 tonight and tomorrow) and are available by phoning 01254 52024 or 01254 52910 (after 7pm).
