GEORGE Ehrhardt savoured more than just the famous post run chip buttie after winning the Noon Stone Fell race for the first time.

The race is as well know for the tasty treat served up in the Top Brink Pub across the finishing line as it is for its gruelling nine mile, 2,300ft climb.

And when the chips were down, the Todmorden Harrier got a real taste of victory!

Ehrhardt crossed the line in 68.11 to win the race that was, until recently, a part of the English Fell Running Championships.

In a close finish that saw the top three runners come in under 69 minutes, Ehrhardt beat Bingley Harrier Rob Jebb by just nine seconds.

Gary Devine of Pudsey and Bramley was in third place in 68.59 with Dark Peak runner Phillip Winskill took fourth in 70.10.

Phillip Taylor of Rossendale was the only other local runner to finish inside the top 10.

But the Vet 40, ninth in 75.57, had to settle for second place in his class with Steve Oldfield of Bradford and Airedale finishing in fifth place in 72.04.

Stefan Macina of Pudsey and Bramley was sixth in 74.50 while Stewart Gregory of Holme Pierrepont took seventh spot in 75.26.

Dale Foster of Otley was eighth ahead of Rossendale's Taylor in 75.48 while Andrew Etherden of Saddleworth completed the top 10 in 76.06.

The race attracted a total of 132 runners but the blustery conditions made sure the course record of 80.35 set by Todmorden's Andy Wrench was never under threat.

Sean Willis of Todmorden was in 11th place in 76.15, two places ahead of club-mate Robert Glover who clocked 76.58.

Thornton Taylor of Rossendale was 16th in 78.43 while another Dale runner, Stephen Clawson was 18th in 79.15.

Paul Prescottt of Todmorden made the top 20 in 19th place in 79.17. Jack Holt of Clayton was 24th and second Vet50 in 81.56 while club-mate Andrew Robinson finished in 82.20 to finish in 26th place.

And another Clayton, Peter Booth was third Vet 50 in 83.27 in 32nd place.

First female was Karen Davison of Dark Peak in 87.46 while Peter Jepson of Rossendale was the first Vet 60 in 90.29 to claim 56th place overall.
