MEMBERS of St John's Church celebrated the 30th anniversary of the laying of the foundation stone for the Aspinall and Thursby Rooms last night with a quiz.
The Rev Lawrence Laycock's team won and more than £70 was raised for the Burnley Mayor's fund. A supper was provided by the church's ladies group.
POLICE Community Support Officer for the rural area Dave Johnson held a surgery for villagers on Saturday afternoon in Worsthorne Reading Rooms. It was a great success and he will be holding a similar event soon. In the meantime, Dave can be contacted on 01282 472912.
LANCASHIRE County Council has informed the Parish Council that it has adopted a new structure for decision-making as part of the Government's programme to modernise local government.
The County Council now believes it operates and makes decisions within procedures which are efficient, transparent and accountable to local people.

PARISH councillors discussed the planning application for Old Hall Farmstead with villagers and reassured them that it was to be recommended for rejection by planning officers at Burnley Borough Council.
The discussion led on to issues surrounding the new Local Plan for Burnley which was causing concern as developers wished to build new houses outside the village boundary. Burnley's local plan expert, Michael Wellock, will attend the next meeting of the Parish Council to answer any questions residents may have.
THE Wine Circle next meet on March 24 when they will discuss 'wine problems solved'.
