THE return match between Clitheroe Town and Padiham which was cancelled last week due to the pitch being waterlogged, took place on Saturday.

Among the enthusiastic crowd were the Mayor of Clitheroe Mary Robbins and her consort, and the Mayor and Mayoress of Padiham, Councillors Granville and Pat Lord.

The Mayor and Mayoress were returning the hospitality shown to them when they visited the Clitheroe club.

PADIHAM parks and open areas will, hopefully, look tidier in the future. Park rangers have received powers which enable them to issue £50 fixed penalty fines to anyone seen dropping litter.

Posters will be displayed warning people about the fines and it is hoped the move will be as successful as the one introduced previously in which dog owners who are proved not to have cleaned up after their dogs have been fined £50.

A PACKED St Leonard's Church heard a variety of songs and music performed by the Nelson Arion Male Voice Choir. The concert was sponsored by Hapton haulage firm Fagan and Whalley and all the proceeds will go towards the restoration of the church's bells which will cost around £40,000.

VISITORS to Gawthorpe Hall last week included pupils from year six at Padiham Green who took part in a creative writing workshop and Gawthorpe High School years seven, eight and nine, who took part in a science week project.

Year seven pupils studied fossils and made their own while years eight and nine learned about eh 'Rock Cycle.'

HAPTON Parish Council's monthly meeting took place on Tuesday, March 11.Councillors were told that it was unlikely that the bowling green would be maintained by the borough council after March 31. this dismayed the council who had obtained the services of a coach to teach the game.

Discussions were held about the possibility of the green being maintained by volunteers but were not thought to be practical. Hapton's Environment are to look at the possibility of obtaining funding.
