A TEENAGER could be on her way to stardom after being picked from hordes of pop wannabes to be the fourth member of an all-girl band.

Shelley Lane, of Edgar Street, Huncoat, was chosen to complete 4play's line-up from more than 100 hopefuls who turned up for auditions after reading about the band in the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.

The 17-year-old thought her chances of a career in music had gone after she sustained whiplash injuries in a car crash two days before an audition for a job in Blackpool last year.

After attending an audition for the band last Thursday there was another hiccup when the former pupil at Hollins Technology College, Accrington, missed a call telling her she had been invited back for a second audition.

"They sent me a message on Sunday asking me to go back that day, but I hadn't got my phone with me," she said.

"I texted them and they said they had a few more girls and I thought I had blown my chance."

On Monday Shelley was told there was another girl in the running, but was invited to sing again on Tuesday night.

"I sang Torn, by Natalie Imbruglia and he said I had got the job," said Shelley.

"I'm shocked and excited. I'm going to give it my all, 110 per cent. The girls are really good so it could go all the way."

The original fourth member dropped out last week leaving manager Joan Thomas three weeks to find a replacement before the band perform live for the first time. The band spent three days auditioning the applicants.

"We had a fantastic response, more than 100 girls applied," Joan said. "It was superb but when Shelley came back the girls said she was the one."

Shelley will now join Ingrid Law, 20, from Accrington, Charlotte Pugh, 17, from Blackburn, and Rachel Dietz, 17, from Preston, as they take their first step on the ladder to fame.

The girls have two weeks to rehearse for their first gig at the Rolls-Royce Club, in Barnoldswick, on April 3.

After that it's off to London to showcase their talents and try to secure a recording contract.
