A BAKERY boss is preparing to market a new lip-smacking line in designer sandwiches -- exclusively created by imaginative youngsters.
Richard Waterfield has challenged Leigh Sacred Heart RC School pupils to produce a fresh and modern baguette and promises to market the best offering for a day at one of his town centre shops.
The mouth-watering idea came from Y3/4 teacher Jennifer Unsworth, who, as a student, worked part-time for the popular bakery making pies, pasties, sandwiches and custards. She invited Mr Waterfield to tell pupils about the art of sandwich-making then he set them the task of designing their own, individual sandwich.
Product
In line with Leigh EAZ objectives on enterprise and literacy, children must decide how the product should best be packaged, promoted and priced.
Waterfields bakery will provide the bread, the school will provide the filling. On Tuesday Richard Waterfield sampled the children's creations and invited the top five to Waterfields Bakery to see their Number One Butty go into production.
The project is part of the enterprise work that Sacred Heart is developing following on from their successful award for Work Related Learning from Warwick University.
Leigh EAZ advisory teacher Glenn Aspinall said: "Sacred Heart is one of the EAZ schools trailblazing inspired enterprise work."
The Zone's project director, Alan Dutton, added: "Waterfields have been one of our most supportive business partners, and it is fitting they should again be linked with one of our EAZ schools in such an exciting programme."
