SUPER City bounced back from two straight defeats to take out their frustration on hapless Runcorn on Tuesday night.

Tony Hesketh's side took a giant step towards finishing in the Unibond Premier Division's top ten with three further points from a commanding display.

The Dolly Blues took the advantage with only eight minutes on the clock as a neat five-man move gave Brian Welch the chance to fire a shot past Runcorn's Tony Macmillan.

And after a Michael Yates right wing corner cross was only partially cleared, a left-footed volley from an acute angle by Dene Whittal-Williams gave City a comfortable 2-0 lead at half-time.

The second-half started in much the same vein as Andy Whittaker continued his goal scoring run - tapping the ball home from close range in the 60th minute.

Runcorn fought back to score a consolation after 80 minutes but it was Lancaster who had the last laugh as Whittaker broke clear from halfway and drove down the flank, skipping a couple of challenges before calmly slotting the ball past McMillan.

Delighted City boss Tony Hesketh told the Citizen: " Again we played some very good football and the goal difference could have been larger, although some will see it as an unexpected result.

"Everyone gave a nine-out-of-ten performance so it was a good team effort - and it means only Accrington Stanley and Harrogate have better current form than us over the last six games."

Hesketh adds: "We have been plagued with injuries this season, which has had a major impact on our game, but in the last seven games we have been able to put out what I feel is our best team and it has helped us get some good results."

Next up for City are Wakefield & Emley (away).
