A WOULD-BE car-jacker used a stun gun on a pensioner as he tried to wrestle the car keys from him.

Thirty-three-years-old Kevin Draper put the stun gun to 66-year-old Brian Coffey's temple three times and pressed the trigger. Each time the pensioner felt incredible pain as pulses of electricity surged through his head.

But despite being in agony, the brave victim fought back and managed to break free only to be floored by Draper again who kicked him and stamped on his chest. The struggle was seen by passing police officers who managed to drag Draper from the driving seat of Coffey's car just as he was about to drive off.

When Draper, of Car Bank Avenue, Atherton, appeared at Bolton Crown Court for sentence he admitted robbery and possessing a prohibited weapon and amphetamines.

Recorder Craig Sephton QC jailed him for four and a half years and branded the offence a 'disgrace.'

He told Draper: "This was a terrible offence. The victim was terrified."

Prosecutor Alaric Bassano said on October 13 last year Mr Coffey had parked his car near Twist Lane in Leigh when he was suddenly grabbed by Draper.

When arrested and searched Draper was carrying a small amount of amphetamine. He wouldn't say how he obtained the stun gun.

The court heard that Draper had expressed remorse and felt sympathy for his victim.
