BOLTON and Bury Chamber of Commerce aims to join the ranks of the UK's "Super Chambers".

Proposals to merge into a North Manchester Chamber of Commerce from April are being recommended to Bolton and Bury Chamber's 1,300 business members.

The proposals involve Bolton and Bury merging with Rochdale and Oldham Chambers and with Business Link North Manchester, which delivers Government-funded business support services. The Chambers would have a new office in Bury and offices retained in Bolton, Oldham and Rochdale. There would be local advisory boards and local directors would sit on the private sector-led company board.

Andrew Dickson, president of Bolton and Bury Chamber, said: "Our main priority is to improve and enhance services for local Chamber members and fellow members across North Manchester. The merger would achieve the best of both worlds in establishing a powerful and effective regional organisation, while boosting the Chamber's strong local operation and identity."
