GIRLS are getting the chance to bend it like Beckham after Myerscough College announced the launch of its new, all-female Football Academy.
The Academy - the first of its kind in the North West - starts in September and will train students up to First Diploma or HND level, as well offering top up courses leading to a degree in the subject.
No previous footballing history is needed to get a place at the academy, just a keen interest in the beautiful game and a willingness to improve and the curriculum will cover fitness training, sports injuries, sports psychology, nutrition and skill development.
Students will also have the chance to train for Levels 1 and 2 of the FA Coaching Awards and will be able to get on various National Women's League teams including Lancaster City and Stockport County.
They will be taught by a team of UEFA-approved experts including former Scottish Universities National Team player, Laura McIntosh.
Laura said: "Football is the fastest growing participation sport for women in the UK, and yet education in the field is distinctly lacking throughout the country.
"Our Academy will give girls the chance boys have had for years, to gain a qualification in the sports industry at the same time as developing as a player.
"A qualification in Football Studies could lead to a wide range of career opportunities for these girls, including football coaching, physiotherapy, journalism or even professional playing."
