This last ditch tackle was in vain, as from the resulting scrum, Leigh went over for another converted try - Scorpions were behind 20-4 at the break.

Determined not to let the home fans down for the last home league game of the season they ran hard at the Leigh Miners defence. Firstly, Tony Green charged onto a reverse pass from Johnston and scored a well earned converted try.

Leigh's defence was tiring and from a scrum, Dave Tanner feigned an inside pass, and charged over for a great solo try. Campbell converted and Scorpions now led 22-20.

The referee gave 4 penalties in a row, which gave Leigh great field position to score an unconverted try and go back in the lead 24-22.

Scorpions looked capable of snatching a result but in the dying minutes Leigh scored two converted tries to run out 37-23 victors.
