LYTHAM Boxer Scott Cardle produced his most convincing performance to date at the National Schoolboy Championship semi-final in Birmingham on Saturday.

He outfought the current central England champion and English Schoolboy Representative Nathan Shaw who up until Saturday held a highly regarded 100per cent record.

Shaw from Bracebridge ABC in Lincoln started the bout as the much fancied favourite and certainly inflicted a degree of damage to the Lytham lad in the first round as Scott's corner had to patch up a blooded nose for his progression to round two. From the bell Cardle went about his business in a much more maligned fashion and was clearly dismantling the Lincoln lad's game plan, he visibly shook Shaw with thunderous right hooks which spurred the crowds reaction.

The third round was to prove the most vital, with Cardle using his intelligent jab and then stepping up a gear to outwit and outpunch a very tired Shaw.

The hostile Midlands audience started to respond favourably to Cardle, obviously admiring the skill and unrelenting hard work of the young fighters, indeed both boxers were given a standing ovation at the final bell.

The judges scored the bout 6-5 in the favour of Cardle.

A scoreline that clearly flattered his opponent, no matter the main prize was progression to the National Championship final where Scott will go head to head with the Southern Counties Champion for the much coveted National Title.
