REGARDING Bridge Street in Darwen, I agree with Mrs Eileen Helliwell (Letters, March 4) about the flagrant disregard of motorists using the street as a drive-thru' -- at great speed, I may add.
I am surprised no one's been knocked down yet, as pedestrians wander round rightly thinking that no vehicles should be using the street. It should be either completely one thing or another -- for traffic or not for traffic.
It could become completely pedestrianised with pavement cafes, tree-lined etc, with the car park strictly for the use of shoppers -- not local workers whose employers should provide their own parking.
At present, I am not sure of what use it is either to the motorist or the traders.
S M TAYLOR, Darwen.
